When I first learned Ashley Jones's book was about cast iron cookware and the how-to's of cooking with this type of cookware, I was surprised at her topic, primarily because of her age. She's a young woman whom I assumed would go for sleek, non-stick pots and pans, not heavy, dull cast iron.Ashley provides the reader an easy-to-read history of cast iron in a conversational style voice. It's easy to picture her sitting at her kitchen table with a cup of coffee regaling a friend with her stories and information.I ordered the book as a wedding gift for my 30-something niece who is nurturing a love of cast iron cooking. The brightly colored photographs, helpful tips, and tantalizing recipes grabbed me as I flipped through the book. I knew I had to get one for myself and others.I've cooked with cast iron for years, and I enjoyed reading about the history of the cookware, the proper seasoning of a new pan, proper usage, and new recipes. Even if you're familiar with cooking with this type of cookware, there's always something new to learn.I'm planning to give the book as Christmas gifts this year.
